Bitwise says Ethereum staking reached record 43.8 million ETH in Q3

Bitwise’s latest staking report said Ethereum staking reached a record 43.8 million ETH in Q3, while Solana staking also set a new high at 440.5 million SOL. The same coverage said staking yields fell across major proof-of-stake networks, including Ethereum at 2.63%.
What this rests on
What it means
Ethereum moved to proof-of-stake with the Merge in September 2022, replacing mining with validator staking that pays rewards from new issuance and transaction tips. Since then, staking has climbed steadily through liquid-staking providers like Lido and Coinbase, and more recently through asset managers packaging staking into investment products. Bitwise, which already runs crypto index and staking-adjacent funds, has published quarterly reports tracking this growth, with Q3 marking the latest data point in that ongoing rise.
Validators already staking see rewards diluted as the pool grows: average yield dropped to 2.63% from 2.81% even as net inflows added almost 2 million ETH. New entrants, including institutional stakers and staking-product issuers, now market a lower annualized return to clients. Node operators and liquid-staking platforms face thinner margins per token staked, while holders who delay staking lose less by waiting, since the reward gap against early stakers keeps narrowing.
Staking crossing nearly 36% of Ethereum's supply hardens the network against certain attacks, but it also concentrates more ETH behind a handful of large staking intermediaries, a trade-off between security and centralization that Ethereum's design never fully resolved. Falling yields on both Ethereum and Solana raise a harder question for the wave of staking ETFs now being marketed: whether shrinking returns can still justify products sold partly on the promise of yield.
Bitwise's next quarterly staking report, due in early 2026 for Q4 data, will show whether net ETH inflows keep outpacing the yield decline or whether participation growth slows as returns compress further. Watch also whether Solana's 440.5 million SOL record holds against Ethereum's pace, and whether regulators move on pending staking-ETF filings, a decision that would determine how much institutional capital keeps pressuring yields downward.

Every piece in order, with the time its news medium declares — if it is not believable we use ours and say so — and what it added to what was already known at that point. Arriving first is not the same as adding something.
