Wells Fargo, Arm, Intuit Keep Their Stock Off OKX-ICE Token Venue as Objections Reach 22
Published Updated 6 new reports since it was first published
Wells Fargo, Cisco, Marvell, Arm, Moderna and Intuit were among six companies that objected to having tokenized versions of their shares listed on the OKX-ICE venue. The objections brought the total number of companies opposing the plan to 22 by Friday, with earlier objections already filed by Microsoft and Alphabet. The venue’s tokenized stock project is being pursued under the SEC’s innovation exemption.
What this rests on
What it means
OKX-ICE is a tokenized-equities venue jointly owned by Intercontinental Exchange and OKX, built under the SEC's innovation exemption, which lets a trading platform list a company's shares as blockchain tokens unless the issuer formally objects within a set window. Microsoft, Alphabet and Goldman Sachs filed early objections before this latest batch, setting the pattern that large, well-known issuers are opting out rather than allowing unauthorized tokenized versions of their stock to trade.
Each objection removes that company's shares from OKX-ICE's planned product entirely: traders on the venue cannot buy or sell tokenized Wells Fargo, Cisco, Marvell, Arm, Moderna or Intuit stock, regardless of demand. OKX and ICE must now build their initial offering around a shrinking pool of cooperative issuers, while compliance teams at listed companies add 'monitor tokenization notices' to their regulatory workload, since the exemption requires an affirmative opt-out rather than silence.
Tokenization was pitched as a way to put any public company's stock on-chain for round-the-clock, borderless trading, but this episode shows issuers still hold the veto, not the venue or the token holders. A platform that needs each company's consent to list its shares is closer to a permissioned clearing arrangement than the open, bearer-asset model crypto markets were built on. Nasdaq's public caution about these venues, and its plan to opt its own stock out, underlines how unsettled the model remains among the exchanges meant to compete with it.
OKX-ICE's own notices show the objector count rising fast, from 16 companies on 19 October to 22 just four days later on 23 October, under a filing window that runs 30 days from each notice. Watch for the next notice date and whether the list keeps growing before that window closes, since a stabilizing number would signal which issuers are willing to let OKX-ICE trade their shares at all once the venue goes live.
