Hong Kong Gold Exchange-backed XGZ token integrates Chainlink CCIP

Hong Kong Gold Exchange has plans to connect its XGZ gold-backed token to Chainlink’s cross-chain system, so the token can move across different blockchain networks. Separate coverage adds that XGZ is being linked with Chainlink CCIP through GoldZip and Midas Labs, and that each XGZ token represents one gram of 99.99% fine gold.
Key claims & sources
What it means
XGZ is Hong Kong Gold Exchange's gold-backed token, with each unit tied to one gram of 99.99% fine gold held by GoldZip. Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol, built since 2023, already underpins transfers for tokenized assets used by banks and asset managers including Swift and ANZ pilots. Earlier gold tokens such as Paxos Gold and Tether Gold stayed largely confined to single chains, limiting where holders could use them as collateral or settle trades.
Once CCIP is live, XGZ holders will be able to move their gold claim across blockchain networks instead of redeeming and re-minting on each chain separately. GoldZip and Midas Labs take on the engineering work of wiring the bridge, while institutional buyers gain a route to use tokenized gold as collateral or liquidity across multiple DeFi venues at once. Exchanges and custodians that only supported single-chain gold tokens now face pressure to offer comparable cross-chain access.
Cross-chain plumbing widens where an asset can travel, but it does not change who controls the gold underneath: GoldZip still holds the bullion and attests to the one-gram backing, so trust in the token rests on its custody and audit practices, not on Chainlink's code. CCIP reduces the operational friction of moving tokenized gold between networks, yet every bridge, however well-engineered, concentrates risk at the points where messages and value cross chains.
The announcement from October 27 sets out intent rather than a finished product, so the test is whether GoldZip publishes which chains XGZ will support first and whether proof-of-reserve reporting keeps pace with cross-chain minting. Institutional adoption claims will be measured by actual liquidity moving through CCIP corridors, not by the integration announcement itself.
Market reaction i
The move was larger before the first headline than after. That is an observation, not an explanation: the market also moves on things nobody publishes.
