Securitize said it plans to add Stellar to its institutional tokenization stack, extending the network options available for issuers that use its platform. The move was announced at Meridian 2026 in Portugal and comes as Stellar keeps pushing further into real-world asset tokenization.

What it means
Securitize built its name issuing BlackRock's BUIDL fund on Ethereum in 2024, then expanded to Avalanche, Solana and Polygon to court institutions wary of single-chain dependency. Stellar, designed originally for payments and used by MoneyGram and IBM's World Wire, added Soroban smart contracts in 2024 to compete for tokenized real-world assets. Meridian, the Stellar Development Foundation's annual conference held this year in Portugal, is where the integration was unveiled.
Asset managers now get a 17th venue to issue tokenized funds, notes and bonds, choosing Stellar's fast settlement and compliance tooling instead of routing everything through Ethereum gas fees. Institutions gain optionality rather than lock-in: the same fund can, in theory, be minted or migrated across chains Securitize supports. Stellar's own ecosystem gains a credibility boost and potential liquidity from Securitize's institutional client base, while smaller tokenization rivals lose ground to a platform now spanning 17 blockchains.
Multiplying the number of supported chains does not multiply decentralization; Securitize remains the single company deciding who can issue, transfer or redeem tokenized assets regardless of which ledger records them. That concentrates control over compliance logic in one intermediary even as the marketing emphasizes blockchain diversity. The real contest is between layer-1s competing for the institutional tokenization narrative, with Stellar now joining Avalanche and Solana in a race where Securitize, not any single chain, holds the gatekeeping power.
The open question is whether this stays an announcement or becomes product: the first tokenized asset actually issued on Stellar through Securitize will show whether institutional demand follows the Meridian 2026 agreement. Watch for which asset manager moves first, since BlackRock's prior embrace of Ethereum set the template others followed. If no issuer commits within months, Stellar becomes one more chain on a long list rather than genuine institutional adoption.
