BitGo-Held Bitcoin and Ether Will Secure Perps Margin Loans for Some Kalshi Prime Clients
Published
Kalshi Prime is expanding how some clients can fund trading on its exchange by allowing loans against crypto held at BitGo. The setup connects custody, lending, and margin for perpetual futures, with loans credited into Kalshi Prime accounts and collateral kept under BitGo’s structure.
What this rests on
What it means
Kalshi Prime sits inside the US futures framework as a registered futures commission merchant, which is why a margin product tied to perpetual futures matters here. BitGo is already a major custodian for crypto assets, so linking its holdings to a trading venue creates a bridge between storage and exchange use. This sits at the point where regulated derivatives infrastructure meets token collateral, and the date stamped on the launch puts it in the current phase of that buildout.
Clients who keep Bitcoin, Ether, or stablecoins in BitGo custody can now turn those holdings into trading margin on Kalshi instead of moving assets elsewhere first. That changes the workflow for traders who want to keep their coins in custody while still using them to access perpetual futures on KalshiEX. It also makes the lending and margin stack more integrated, with Kalshi Katalyst originating the loans and the proceeds landing directly in Kalshi Prime accounts.
This arrangement pushes crypto further into the same plumbing used for traditional derivatives, while still leaving the assets in segregated custody and under an insurance-backed structure. The trade-off is between convenience and tighter integration on one side and a more layered, institution-style setup on the other, rather than a simple self-custody model. It also shows how prediction markets and perpetual futures are being paired with crypto collateral in a way that is more formal than the old exchange-only model.
Still open is how broadly Kalshi will offer the borrowing feature across its client base and how the insurance and custody protections would operate in practice across different loan sizes and assets. The launch details do not spell out customer eligibility beyond “some Kalshi Prime clients,” and they do not set out the full terms of repayment or liquidation. Those unanswered points will determine how far this model reaches beyond the first rollout.
