Ritual Launches AI-Native Layer 1 for Autonomous Agents
Published Updated 1 new report since it was first published
Ritual has launched Ritual Chain, an EVM-compatible Layer 1 designed for autonomous AI agents. The network is described as giving agents their own wallets, onchain identity, and private state, and it is presented as infrastructure for software that can operate as a persistent economic actor.
What this rests on
What it means
AI agents have increasingly been treated as software that can act across systems, and Ritual Chain is aimed at giving that software a native place onchain. An EVM-compatible Layer 1 matters because it lets developers build with familiar Ethereum tooling while targeting a network designed around agent behavior. Ritual’s founders, Niraj Pant and Akilesh Potti, previously worked at Polychain Capital, which places the launch within a team that already understands crypto infrastructure.
If agents can hold wallets, identity, and private state on their own, builders can design applications where software participates directly in transactions and coordination. That shifts the focus from user-managed accounts toward machine-managed accounts, which changes how access, permissions, and custody are handled in crypto products. It also creates a clearer boundary between ordinary smart-contract apps and systems meant specifically for autonomous software. (per dailyhodl.com)
The launch sits at the intersection of two crypto narratives: open blockchain infrastructure and increasingly autonomous AI systems. That raises the same tension seen in other agent-focused products, where more automation can expand what developers can build while also concentrating sensitive functions inside a new system. Ritual’s pitch makes that trade-off visible by framing the chain around persistent economic actors rather than around human users alone.
Still open is whether Ritual Chain will attract developers, agents, and applications that actually use the wallet, identity, and private-state model in production. The launch text does not show which projects are already live on the network or how broadly it will be adopted. It also leaves open how users and builders will evaluate whether an AI-native chain is necessary when existing EVM networks already support many onchain applications.
Market reaction
The move was larger before the first headline than after. That is an observation, not an explanation: the market also moves on things nobody publishes.
How the story was built
Every piece in order, with the time its news medium declares — if it is not believable we use ours and say so — and what it added to what was already known at that point. Arriving first is not the same as adding something.
