Anthropic Launches Haiku 5.5: Its Cheapest and Fastest Claude Model Yet
Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5 on October 7 and positioned it as its lowest-cost Claude model, with prompt processing priced about 75% below Haiku 4.5. The launch also came with lower Sonnet cache pricing and API credits for Max and Team users. Haiku 5.5 is the final model in the Claude 5.5 lineup, following Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5.
What this rests on
What it means
Each sentence links inside to the piece that supports it.
Customers using Claude for high-volume tasks like summaries and live support will notice a cheaper model in the lineup, along with lower Sonnet cache pricing and API credits for Max and Team users. That changes the pricing and access terms around some of Anthropic’s products today, while leaving the underlying lineup in place.
Before this release, Anthropic’s Claude 5.5 set was not complete; after Haiku 5.5, the trio includes Haiku, Sonnet, and Opus. What stays the same is that the products are still separate models, even though Haiku 5.5 is now the lowest-cost one.
Market reaction
The move was larger before the first headline than after. That is an observation, not an explanation: the market also moves on things nobody publishes.
How the story was built
Every piece in order, with the time its news medium declares — if it is not believable we use ours and say so — and what it added to what was already known at that point. Arriving first is not the same as adding something.
