Starknet price rebounds 25%: Can STRK reclaim $0.10 after sell-off?
Published Updated 4 new reports since it was first published
Starknet’s STRK token saw a sharp run-up earlier in October, then gave back part of those gains as trading and network signals weakened. At the same time, voting remained open on research into Starknet becoming an independent Layer 1 blockchain, with different outlets tracking the price swing, network activity, and governance timeline.
What this rests on
What it means
Starknet is a zero-knowledge rollup built by StarkWare, settling proofs back to Ethereum since its mainnet launch, with STRK distributed through a February 2024 airdrop as the network's governance and fee token. The token's October run, up 210% over four weeks and 122% between Oct. 8 and Oct. 11, coincided with talk of Starknet shedding its Layer 2 status and operating as an independent chain, a departure from the rollup model it was built on.
Holders who bought into the rally now face a token that fell 51% from its $0.1268 high to $0.0624, meaning short-term traders chasing the L1 narrative absorbed most of the downside. DeFi users on Starknet saw Total Value Locked drop 5.3%, a sign liquidity providers pulled back rather than wait out the volatility. Governance participants, meanwhile, must still decide whether to back research into full independence, a vote whose outcome did not stop the selling.
A zk-rollup abandoning Ethereum settlement for its own Layer 1 chain raises a real question about what Starknet's security and decentralization pitch has actually meant. Projects that sell themselves on inheriting Ethereum's trust model lose that claim the moment they propose going it alone, and STRK's price swinging on governance headlines rather than network usage shows how much of the current valuation rests on narrative rather than the record weekly network revenue posted during the decline.
The governance vote on researching an independent blockchain for Starknet stays open until Oct. 22, and its result will determine whether the network pursues a formal break from its Layer 2 design or stays tied to Ethereum settlement. A vote to proceed would mark one of the first major rollups to attempt full independence; a rejection would leave STRK's recent swings as a speculative episode rather than a structural turning point.
Market reaction
The move was larger before the first headline than after. That is an observation, not an explanation: the market also moves on things nobody publishes.

Every piece in order, with the time its news medium declares — if it is not believable we use ours and say so — and what it added to what was already known at that point. Arriving first is not the same as adding something.
