Solana shows resilience, but some areas need continued observation, Fidelity says
Published Updated 3 new reports since it was first published
Fidelity’s research team said Solana has gone more than two years without a reported mainnet outage and has kept vote success near 99.7%. The new coverage keeps the focus on resilience while highlighting that stake, hosting, and client concentration remain under observation, with one report placing the analysis just before the Alpenglow consensus upgrade.
What this rests on
What it means
Solana's early years were defined by repeated mainnet halts, including multiple outages in 2021 and 2022 that froze transactions for hours and drew comparisons to Ethereum's far longer uptime record. That history made 'reliability' a recurring theme in Fidelity's own commentary on the network. The firm's technology research team now says more than two years have passed without a reported outage, a reversal from the period that once defined Solana's reputation.
Validators, stakers and institutions evaluating Solana now have a documented 99.7% vote-success rate to weigh alongside the uptime record, useful for custody and allocation decisions. But the same report flags concentration in stake, hosting and client software, meaning large holders, major cloud providers and the dominant validator client still carry outsized influence. Builders and node operators gain a clearer risk map; they lose the ability to treat decentralization metrics as a settled issue. (per cryptobriefing.com)
A chain can post two years of clean uptime and still carry systemic risk if a small number of validators, hosting providers or a single client implementation sit behind that performance. Fidelity's own framing captures this: resilience and concentration are not opposites, they can coexist, and calling a network 'resilient' without naming who controls its validators and software risks flattering a structure that remains fragile under stress.
Fidelity Center for Applied Technology's assessment, dated to an October 2026 report surfaced on October 17, was deliberately positioned as a baseline just ahead of the Alpenglow consensus upgrade. Whether that upgrade measurably reduces stake, hosting or client concentration will be the test of whether Fidelity's resilience narrative holds or whether the same risks it flagged persist under a new consensus design.
