Morpho Opens Robinhood Stock Tokens to Stablecoin Borrowing
Published Updated 3 new reports since it was first published
Robinhood Crypto said eligible holders can use Stock Tokens as collateral to borrow stablecoins through Morpho, and Robinhood Chain reached $1.14 billion in total value locked. Morpho’s market list includes NVDA and SPCX at a 62.5% liquidation threshold and SPY at 77%, with USDG as the loan asset.
What this rests on
What it means
Robinhood launched tokenized US stocks for European users in 2025, wrapping equities like Nvidia and SpaceX in blockchain tokens traded outside traditional exchanges. Morpho, the lending protocol already used by Coinbase for crypto-backed loans, operates permissionless markets where any asset can serve as collateral if a risk curator sets the parameters. Pairing the two turns Robinhood's stock wrappers into DeFi collateral rather than passive brokerage holdings.
Holders of NVDA, SPCX and SPY tokens can now post them on Morpho and draw out USDG stablecoins without selling the underlying position, with liquidation kicking in at 62.5% for the first two and 77% for SPY. That lets a Robinhood user raise cash against a tokenized Nvidia stake overnight, something no US brokerage offers against a real NVDA share. Morpho's lenders gain new USDG demand, and Robinhood Chain's $1.14 billion TVL gives the integration an existing liquidity base to draw on.
Tokenized equities were sold as a bridge letting retail investors hold stock exposure on-chain; using them as DeFi collateral tests whether that wrapper behaves like the real asset under stress. A 62.5% liquidation threshold on SPCX assumes price feeds and redemption mechanics hold up as reliably as a brokerage margin call, which is a different promise than simply tracking a share price. Whether tokenized stock collateral can be seized and liquidated as cleanly as crypto collateral has not been tested in a sharp drawdown.
Robinhood Chain's TVL, now at $1.14 billion, is the figure to track as more Stock Token markets get added beyond NVDA, SPCX and SPY. Growth there would show appetite for borrowing against tokenized equities rather than just holding them; stagnation would suggest the use case stays niche. Any additional Morpho market listings, or liquidation events in the existing ones, will show whether the thresholds set on Oct. 22 hold up in practice.
Market reaction
The move was larger before the first headline than after. That is an observation, not an explanation: the market also moves on things nobody publishes.
How the story was built
Every piece in order, with the time its news medium declares — if it is not believable we use ours and say so — and what it added to what was already known at that point. Arriving first is not the same as adding something.
