MiCA focus shifts from rulemaking to supervision, ESMA chair says
ESMA set out a 2027 supervision program for crypto firms that centers on operational resilience, outsourcing, liquidity, reverse solicitation, and EU-based substance, alongside more harmonized reporting across national supervisors. ESMA also placed crypto assets and blockchain technology at the center of its 2027 work program and said its MIDAS surveillance system will be used to detect and prevent market abuse involving digital assets.
What this rests on
What it means
Each sentence links inside to the piece that supports it.
Crypto firms supervised under MiCA will now see more attention on their operations, reporting, and group structure than on rule-writing alone. That means compliance teams, outsourcing arrangements, and firms with limited EU substance are the parts of the sector most likely to notice the shift first.
